Rules and conventions for editing wiki pages
The number one rule of wiki editing is to leave your inhibitions at the door; close behind that is jump in head first (don’t worry the water is warm). Other people can correct any mistakes later, so do not fear the wiki.
As far as conventions go, in general, write clearly and concisely and make sure you are always aiming to do something that improves the wiki contents. An edit can be anything from fixing a spelling error or adding a period to the end of a sentence to adding entire paragraphs of text or importing and adding an image or creating a link.
When some type of formatting is necessary, such as new headings or bold text, you do this using wiki markup language or wiki syntax. See Help:Formatting for some of the common types of formatting used.
Edit Summary
Before you save a change, you can enter a short note in the Summary: box describing any changes that you made. This is not a priority or even necessary, but try to give a brief description of what you just changed, e.g., fixed typo or added another image to the right of the third paragraph.
Why would you want to do this? The summary gets stored alongside your edit and allows people to track changes in the wiki more effectively.
Something to think about: if someone was editing a wiki page that you created, would you want a summary of their edits? I know I would.
Discussion
Every wiki page has its own "discussion" or "talk page" where you can ask questions, make suggestions, or discuss corrections made to the wiki page. The discussion page can be accessed by clicking on the "discussion" tab at the top of the wiki page. See Help: Discussion.
